O hail we pledge our loyalty, and all our toils for thy glory be. |
I already have a Masters degree but I decided to take some education supplemental units in preparation for a possible career in education. The K-12 program has just been implemented this year and there are several forecasts that additional teachers would be needed especially in the fields of sciences and vocational education. I think I can qualify both as a science teacher (with my background in Chemistry and Basic Biology) and as a vocational teacher specializing in food trades. Well, these are just self-assessments. I think I still need to take a TESDA assessment to qualify as a vocational teacher. I still need to check with CHED or my TCP teachers with what options would be best for me.
Last June 2012, I enrolled in the Teaching Certificate Program (TCP) of the College of Education at Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Talisay City. The TCP, I think is the new nomenclature for "education supplemental units". People are not yet familiar with TCP but when you tell them its preparation for taking the teacher's board exam, they usually will answer back "ahh...you're taking educ supplemental", coupled with raised eyebrows. I don't know about the experiences of others but that is what I usually get when I say I am enrolled in TCP.
And so, despite my over hectic, super-human, and maxi-time compressed schedule, I took up TCP and become a student once again.
This semester, I enrolled in three 3-unit courses and three 1-unit Field Studies:
Educ 11 - Assessment in Student Learning
Educ 6 - Developmental Reading
Educ 9 - Educational Technology
Each 3-unit course requires a field study which is the experiential learning component of the theories and concepts discussed in class. In the field studies, we are required to visit and observe a school, learn and describe how these schools operate using the concepts and theories learned, and make analysis and reflection on the outcomes of our observation. The result of the field studies would enhance what we learned inside the classroom. These are theories and concepts put into action.
This page in my blog will be dedicated to the materials I have gathered, created and used in my subjects in TCP. These are papers, assignments, reports and projects submitted to our teachers. Actually, this blog page itself is one of the requirements in one of my subjects but I decided to post here materials from the other two subjects. I hope my/our group's output would be helpful to other students out there who are taking these subjects.
